Short Biography of Kevin O’Rrourke

Kevin O’Rourke is an internationally recognised expert in the field of building sector energy efficiency. 40 of his 43 years professional engineering career have been engaged in working on energy efficiency in buildings and industry, renewable energy technologies and related policies. His career has covered the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy and environmental protection, working in government technology and development agencies, industry, academic research and the EU Commission.

When Head of the Built Environment in the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, he played a lead role in Ireland’s implementation of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). For ten years he played a prominent and influential role in the EPBD ‘Concerted Action’ forum of member state authorities – a key networking initiative and learning forum for EU member states to share approaches, difficulties, success factors and other experiences in planning and implementing the EPBD.

Kevin is Chairman of the Irish Green Building Council, and was a founding board member of the Council, and a twice former Chairman of the Energy-Environment Division of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland.
